Merton Physical Education
Merton Schools are located in the beautiful lake country area of Southeastern Wisconsin. Merton is a K-8 district and when our students graduate they attend school at Arrowhead High School. The Merton School physical education department's curriculum is based on being a well rounded physically fit individual. We teach core values like honesty, respect, communication, diversity, and work ethic. We offer a very diverse curriculum that includes many fitness units throughout the year along with other competitive and cooperative sports. Check out our 2012-2013 curriculum page to see what we are up to right now! Look below to see what the Merton Physical Education Department is all about!
Fitness Fun
There are so many fun activities that you can do that incorporates fitness and excitement with friends. That's what exercising is all about. We are here to give the students in Merton schools many fun ways to stay fit! We want to instill a sense of excitement, challenge, competition, and let our children explore all the different ways to move their bodies! Fitness is not a destination, but a way of life. We need to begin this thought process at a young age, so our students will work hard to stay fit for the rest of their lives! We have used these units for some great fitness fun:
Yoga, Pilaties, Boot Camp, Speed Quickness, and Agility, Circuit Fitness, Circuit Weights, Track and Field, Aerobic Dance, High Intensity Interval Training, Kid Friendly Insanity Activities, P90X for Kids, and so much more!

Cutting Edge 21st Century Activities
The best part about physical education is that there are so many things you can create and do that are great for your body and mind! With the incorporation of technology and a creative mind your kids will be involved in some exciting curriculum very soon. We have 6 iPads that we can use at Merton Intermediate School and they are becoming a big part of our curriculum. You also need to utilize what your students have and a BYOD program can take your physical education classes to the next level. There are so many apps that can be used in a classroom or at home too, so get on the cutting edge and try something new in your classes. Check out the sections apps for students, for teachers, or fitness enthusiasts. Geocaching is always great for fitness, cooperation and fun. Try to make your own PE Amazing Race using QR Codes and so much more!

Sport Related Activities
We also play different sports throughout the school year. At Merton we try our best to introduce "new" or "different" sports along with some traditional sports. When we teach these sports we still have a fitness focus for our skill development. This keeps learning the skills fun and fresh! Even if we are playing a sport, fitness is one of the most important parts. We try to keep the skill development activities at a high intensity for some interval training. Watch the video below to see how we incorporate high intensity interval training into our skill development. When it is time to play games that are involved with the sports, we choose to modify the activities so that everyone gets to touch the ball many times. Modified games also help keep the intensity of the games up and in turn keeps the focus on fitness gains by our students. Some of our favorite sports to play are:
Basketball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, football, rugby, baseball, cricket, rounders, curling, floor hockey, badminton, and team handball.
