So You Think You Can Dance
This was a really fun unit where students were given a challenge to create a 60-90 second dance by using the tools and resources given to them through the iPad. Students were reluctant to start, but once they got going they had a so much fun collaborating, communicating, and creating their dances with their groups! Here is a link to the SYTYCD Student Booklet and check out the videos of some of the best dances that were created and please vote on our poll so we can rank our top 8 videos!

Floor Hockey
Our 7th & 8th graders have done a very nice job over the first two months of the school year and are looking forward to our first unit in the gym. So far we have been outside or in the fitness room. During our floor hockey unit our focus will be on floor hockey skills to help us improve our game play, but we will also keep a focus on fitness. Each day will begin with 4-5 minutes of fitness activities that are needed to be successful hockey players. This will get our hearts pumping and get us ready for the floor hockey activities. There will be a skill focus or a specific game skill. We will also play many modified and small sided games to keep everyone involved and having fun!

Circuit Fitness & Circuit Weights
Here is the video of our 16 stations that I use for circuit weight and fitness. Each station lasts for 4-5 minutes and then we rotate. This time I ask our students to lift lighter weights so they can get to 15 reps. This keeps their heart rates up and cuts down on the time needed for switching between stations. While in the fitness center I use the app called Music Workout made by Jarrod Robinson. It is the perfect app for playing music, switching stations, and keeping a well managed and controlled class. If you click on the file below you will find the exercise worksheet that I have my classes fill out while they are doing their workout. I also have 4 iPads in the fitness center and each iPad is at a different station (core, plyometrics, upper body, and legs). I use the fitness videos created by my 8th grade students in Merton and they can be found on the 5 Min Fitness YouTube page. Check it out. This is a great way to motivate your students to work out. I enjoy teaching this unit, because it is exciting to see how hard our students are willing to push and challenge themselves to get fit!
